When describing the value of AI in marketing strategy terms, an analogy that I turn to increasingly often is that of the Michelin Starred Restaurant.
For in such a restaurant, it isn’t the Executive Chef who makes your dinner. It is a team of Station Chefs or ‘Prep Chefs’. They make the sauces; they prepare the vegetables and pin-bone the fish. Effectively, they ‘make your dinner’.
Think of the Prep Chefs as AI tools and platforms. In years to come, you may even find that the ‘open kitchen’ is no longer a thing, as people are replaced by robots. I don’t want to gaze at something that resembles a car production line when I’m spending £20 on a bowl of soup.
I make this point to all Marketing Managers, In-house team bosses and even Sales Directors:
YOU are the Executive Chefs. You shall continue to design the menu. You shall continue to check every dish at the pass to ensure it is exactly as per your vision, or it goes back to the kitchen to be made again. They call it ‘human in the loop’. AI in isolation doesn’t solve anything: It merely accelerates failure.
Meanwhile, AI should be pin boning some salmon in record time… AI has a unique role to play in accelerating the speed at which laborious tasks can be accomplished.
